ABOUT RPI Company History |
Diffractometers![]() This equipment has been specifically manufactured to form part of a high precision diffractometer assembly for Synchrotron Radiation Facilities and is based on standard RPI rotary table designs.
This instrument has been optimised for rapid data collection of powder samples in a variety of in situ experimental environments and is capable of being equipped with multiple detectors for simultaneous or sequential recording of diffraction. The instrument consists of three independent rotary stages having a common axis of rotation. The diffractometer operates in vertical scattering geometry with the axis of rotation being horizontal and at right angles to the incident x-ray beam axis. One of the rotary axes caries the sample and associated sample conditioning equipment such as a furnace, cryostat, tensile stage or Eulerian cradle weighing up to 100kgs. The other rotary axes carry the detectors and can move independently to each other. The detector mounting plates are equipped with mounting features capable of carrying detectors weighing up to 50kgs. Due to the load of the detectors being off centre variable counterbalance weights are supplied to counter act the varying load conditions. Each rotary axis is capable of 360° rotation in each direction and the traverse is limited only by the physical dimensions of the detector fitted. A vertical axis with 120mm of traverse and horizontal axis with 180mm of traverse is fitted to the base of the unit. This range of motion allows for small adjustments in beamline movement plus larger movements to accommodate changes in setup. The base is designed to be extremely stable with precise motion geometry. |
